Public discussions on environmental impact assessment of Tashlyk HPSPP construction have begun
On April 1, 2021 the launching of public discussions on the report on environmental impact assessment of the Tashlyk HPSPP construction was announced. THPSPP hydraulic units 3 – 6 are planned to be completed along with a gradual full reservoir level increase of Oleksandrivke water reservoir, which is a part of the South-Ukraine Power Complex.
Tashlyk Hydro Pumped Storage Power Plant is intended to accommodate peak loads in the southwestern part of the United Power System of Ukraine, as well as to ensure a reliable base-load operation of South-Ukraine NPP.
Subject to international commitments Ukraine is moving towards further reduction of fossil fuel share in the domestic power balance. This is, inter alia, an additional argument of the rationale for Tashlyk HPSPP finishing constructing. At the same time, feedback from the inhabitants of the adjacent towns and villages is of utmost importance, therefore it is absolutely necessary to discuss with the public the parameters and results of the environmental impact assessment of such construction.
The public discussions will last 30 working days from the moment of the official publication of the announcement of their beginning. The public has the right to submit any comments or suggestions regarding the planned activities, by sending them in writing (including by email) or expressing orally during recorded public hearings. Proposals submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
Currently, due to quarantine, public discussions will be held in the remote mode (comments and suggestions to be submitted in writing or electronically), and hearings will begin after lifting of quarantine restrictions.
Construction of the Tashlyk Hydro Pumped Storage Power Plant is under way in accordance with the Ordinance of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 21.11.2007 №1036-p "On approval of the Tashlyk HPSPP construct completion project" and provides for the commissioning of six THPSPP hydraulic units with a total capacity of 906 MW in the generator mode.
The completion of the Tashlyk HPSPP is included in the list of priority tasks of the state policy in the field of energy security of Ukraine. Oleksandrivke water reservoir at the Southern Buh River is located near the town of Yuzhnoukrainsk, Voznesenskyi District, Mykolaiv Region.
