Ukrainian nuclear engineers participate in international post-Fukushima measures conference

During the international conference of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) devoted to the 10th anniversary of the accident at the Japanese Fukushima nuclear power plant post-Fukushima measures being implemented at Ukrainian nuclear power plants were discussed.

"Post-Fukushima measures are among the most crucial in our work and form an important part of the Complex Safety Upgrade Program of Power Units of Ukrainian NPPs,” - emphasized Viktor Livinsky,   the WANO representative at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant.

The event was aimed at forming current thinking of Fukushima accident causes and consequences. The conference was attended by employees of nuclear power plants - member organizations of WANO Moscow Centre (WANO-MC), program and project managers, WANO-MC Secretariat advisors, nuclear energy veterans as well as WANO-MC youth movement representatives.

At the conference, Ukrainian engineers stressed upon carefully studying of other countries' experiences to achieve safety culture maximum level at domestic nuclear power plants. "Safety should be of the top priority to find the optimal way out of any situation as quickly as possible," highlighted Andriy Tuz, the WANO youth movement coordinator at the Zaporizhzhya NPP. "If we are set for the challenges, we will be able to respond to them adequately and effectively".

Over the last years, the operation of domestic NPPs power units has not made for any environmental changes testifying to environmental deterioration at ​​their location compared to previous years.
